With the popularity of underground garages, carbon monoxide poisoning incidents are also frequently appearing in public . In recent years, more and more national and local governments have paid special attention to CO monitoring in underground garages.
In China, there are several building standards with regulations on the CO emission detection and monitoring of the underground parking garage.
"Design Standards for Energy Conservation of Public Buildings" GB50189-2015 4.5.11 For the ventilation system of the underground parking garage, it is advisable to set the timing automatic start and stop (number of units) control of the ventilator according to the usage situation or the CO concentration in the garage.
"Evaluation Standards for Green Buildings" GB/T50378-2019
5.1.9 The underground garage should be equipped with a carbon monoxide concentration monitoring device linked with the exhaust equipment.
Inhalation of carbon monoxide CO is very harmful to the human body. It will combine with hemoglobin to form carboxyhemoglobin, which will lead to hypoxia(low level of oxygen in the human body). Normally, a grown-up is able to resist CO concentration of maximum 50ppm.
The most common symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning are headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, fatigue and weakness if stay long in the environment with 200ppm CO. Exposure to high levels of CO (400-800ppm) can severely damage the heart and central nervous system, even leading to death.
The CO emission in underground garage mainly comes from vehicle motor. When the engine is idling, due to insufficient combustion of gasoline, it will produce exhaust gas containing a large amount of CO.
The closed environment of underground garage make it difficult for air ventilation, and accumulate large amount of CO gas causing damage to people’s health. Therefore, it’s quite necessary to equip ventilation system for fresh air in the underground parking sites.
Underground Garage CO Solutions
There are mainly two purposes to install CO concentration monitoring system:
1.Regular ventilation to ensure low concentration of CO in the garage to prevent security accidents.
2.Start ventilation device according to the CO concentration in the garage to avoid frequent operation of the system to save power energy.
Underground garage CO alarm system is designed according to different garage sizes and divided fire prevention zones. Its core component is CO sensor which is able to detect and measure the concentration of carbon monoxide in the garage. When it exceeds the preset limit of concentration, the system will automatically send alarming signal and at the same time start ventilation for fresh air.
Besides CO, there are more toxic and harmful gas such as nitrogen oxides(NOx), particulate matters(PM2.5/PM10), etc. Corresponding sensors can be added for combined detection demand. Please contact our team for professional consultation.
