With the continuous acceleration of the industrialization process, the types of flammable, explosive and toxic gases in the chemical industry are gradually increasing. Once these harmful gases leak during production, transportation and use, they will cause accidents such as fire, explosion, poisoning, suffocation, etc., seriously endangering the safety of life and property.

Therefore, in order to ensure the health of personnel and safe production, it is very important to monitor the gas in the working environment of chemical enterprises.

Monitoring of combustible gases in ambient air can reveal the degree of environmental danger. When the concentration of combustible gas in the air reaches its lower explosion limit, the concentration of combustible gas is 100%LEL, and the explosion hazard of this scene is high; when the concentration of combustible gas in the air only reaches 10% of the lower explosion limit, that is, 10%LEL, the explosion hazard is low.

Automatic monitoring of toxic gases in places with greater toxicity risks can prevent poisoning accidents. When entering equipment maintenance, or entering isolated production rooms, trenches, basements, storage rooms and other areas where toxic gases are easily accumulated, monitoring toxic gases and issuing alarms before reaching concentrations that cause poisoning are essential safety measures.

In addition to the above two gases, oxygen content monitoring should also be carried out. One is the monitoring of oxygen deficiency in the air. Before entering some equipment or places that may be deficient in oxygen, oxygen content monitoring must be carried out. It is strictly forbidden to enter when the oxygen content is lower than 18% to prevent suffocation due to lack of oxygen. The other is the monitoring of oxygen content in combustible gases. When the oxygen content in combustible gas (or vapor of flammable liquid) is too high, explosion is more likely to occur, so it is also necessary to monitor and alarm the oxygen content in the combustible gas.

How to conduct effective monitoring?

Electrochemical sensors are sensors in which the sensitive material reacts chemically with the gas being measured, releasing electric charge to form current. The concentration of the gas being measured can be determined by testing the current.

Since the 1980s, electrochemical sensors have been used to monitor a variety of toxic gases and have shown good sensitivity and selectivity. Among all the available sensor types for gas monitoring, electrochemical sensors have the lowest power consumption and are most widely used in the monitoring of toxic and harmful gases in the industrial field.

Tensensor solutions

1. MQ-E3 series electrochemical gas sensor

MQ-E3 series has three electrodes, which basically meet the long-term stability, life, accuracy and resolution requirements of all industrial sites.

2. MQ-E4 series electrochemical gas sensor

MQ-E4 series is a four-electrode electrochemical gas sensor, mainly used for quantitative and qualitative detection of gases in industries, coal mines and environmental protection.

3. Electrochemical module series

The electrochemical module has been calibrated and amplified, with serial port and analog voltage output, making it more convenient to use.

Tensensor's electrochemical series toxic gas sensors have stable and reliable performance, high sensitivity and good selectivity. They can detect a variety of common toxic gases such as carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, chlorine, sulfur dioxide, phosphine, nitrogen dioxide and oxygen. They are widely used in portable instruments and online monitoring equipment in civil and industrial fields. For more sensor solutions, please contact us:
