Gas Sensor Petrochemical Industry Solutions

1. Industry background:

    The petrochemical industry is an important part of the chemical industry and one of the important pillar industries in my country. At present, the world's oil and natural gas consumption accounts for about 60% of the total energy consumption; initially, our country's oil consumption was less than 20% due to the large amount of coal consumption. However, with the development of the national economy, the use of oil has increased year by year. In recent years, my country has carried out large-scale oil and gas import pipeline construction to ensure the smooth import of oil and gas resources and lay the foundation for the development of the petrochemical industry.

The energy provided by petrochemicals is mainly used as fuel for automobiles, tractors, airplanes, ships, and boilers. At the same time, refining enterprises provide various chemical raw materials for the chemical industry. With the construction of the West-East Gas Transmission Project, more gas has also entered thousands of households. It can be said that the petrochemical industry has penetrated into all walks of life in our national team. The industry mainly includes exploration, mining, smelting and chemical processing, storage, transportation and other parts.

    In order to ensure the safety of production, processing, transportation and use, it is necessary to detect and monitor the gas pressure, gas leakage explosion prevention, various toxic leakage and other links. At the same time, relevant national units have formulated corresponding monitoring standards and entrusted the Shenyang Fire Research Institute of the Ministry of Public Security to carry out the publicity, acceptance and inspection of the corresponding standards.

2. Application occasions and areas:

    According to relevant industry and national standards, the petrochemical industry mainly focuses on the following areas for gas detection applications:

    1) Combustible gas detection alarms should be installed in the following places:

a Oil pump room, metering room, oily sewage pump room, valve group room, dehydrator operation room above the crude oil transfer station; b Compressor room, metering room, valve group room and ball receiving and sending room for natural gas transportation; c Compressor room, metering room, valve group room, ball receiving and sending room, tank area and loading and unloading facilities of light hydrocarbon system; d Pump room, metering room, valve group room, tank area and loading and unloading facilities of condensate oil and gasoline; e Liquefied petroleum gas pump room, filling (filling) room, metering room, gas cylinder warehouse and tank area;

    2) Combustible gas detection alarms should be installed in the following places:

a Crude oil settling tank operation room, crude oil tank area; b Oily sewage tank area.

    At present, gas detection and analysis methods are widely used to control toxic gases in the oil production process. Among them, the most widely used are gas sensors such as carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, and sulfur dioxide. They are widely used in petrochemical production in the form of independent portable detectors, gas detection systems, and flue gas analysis systems. On average, about 20 gas sensors are required for every 10,000 tons of finished oil production. Based on the current annual output of 220 million tons of finished oil, the annual demand for gas sensors is about 500,000.

The entire production, processing, transportation, and use links require the detection of toxic gases such as carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, ethylene oxide, propylene, vinyl chloride, acetylene, and organic vapors such as benzene, aldehydes, and ketones. A large number of gas sensors are needed for safety protection to prevent poisoning and explosion accidents.

3. Currently, there are several main methods for gas detection in the petroleum and petrochemical industries:

1. Combustible gas

Combustible gas is mainly detected by catalytic elements. Domestic products currently occupy the mainstream market, mainly measuring 100%LEL, and also using thermal conductivity elements to measure 100VOL%. After 2007, domestically produced infrared gas sensors of independent brands began to appear, making the high-end gas detection products in the petrochemical industry gradually adopt infrared gas sensors, which can measure 100%LEL and 100%VOL. At the same time, laser beam technology is also gradually being used in the petrochemical industry.

2. Oxygen and toxic gases

Electrochemical gas sensors are mainly used, which can measure various toxic gases and oxygen. After 2007, infrared and ultraviolet sensors have also gradually begun to be used in the detection of special toxic gases.
