CO Concentration Monitoring Solution for Underground Garages

Source:ShanXi TengXing Sensor TechnologyCo.,Ltd2025-07-10 09:28:00

Background of the Project

With the popularity of private cars and underground garages, poisoning incidents caused by carbon monoxide have frequently appeared in the news. In recent years, the national and local governments have paid special attention to CO monitoring in underground garages.

Carbon monoxide is very harmful to the human body after inhalation. It will combine with hemoglobin to form carboxyhemoglobin, which will cause hypoxia. The most common symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, fatigue and weakness. Exposure to high concentrations of carbon monoxide may seriously damage the heart and central nervous system, and even cause death.

50ppm --The maximum amount of adults allowed
200ppm2-3 hours

400ppm2 hForehead pain
3 hLife-threatening
800ppm45 minHeadache, nausea
2-3 hDeath

The production of carbon monoxide in underground garages mainly comes from car engines. When the engine is idling, due to incomplete combustion of gasoline, exhaust gas containing a large amount of CO will be produced.

Underground parking lots are closed environments, and vehicles frequently enter and exit. The exhaust gas emitted is not easy to be discharged, and it is very easy to accumulate a large amount of CO gas, causing the parking lot to be filled with pungent odors, which is harmful to people's health. Therefore, underground garages and parking lots should be equipped with air supply and exhaust systems to replace with fresh air.

Solution

There are two main purposes for installing a carbon monoxide concentration monitoring system in an underground garage:

    1. Regular ventilation ensures that the carbon monoxide concentration in the garage is below the hazardous level, which is a safety consideration.

    2. Ventilation is performed according to the carbon monoxide concentration in the underground garage to avoid energy waste caused by excessive ventilation frequency, which is an energy-saving consideration.

The underground parking lot carbon monoxide detection alarm system designs gas detection equipment for different parking lot areas and fire partitions, and uses its core component, the carbon monoxide sensor, to comprehensively detect the carbon monoxide concentration value in the underground garage. When the carbon monoxide concentration in the environment exceeds the preset alarm value, it can automatically alarm and start the exhaust system for air replacement.

MQ2-CO-Φ14×50 Carbon Monoxide Sensor

MQ-E2-CO-φ20 Electrochemical CO Sensor

MQ-E3-CO Electrochemical CO Sensor( replace the 4 Series)

    Advantages of the monitoring system:

    1. Real-time detection of carbon monoxide concentration in the underground garage environment.

    2. Multiple fire partition concentration values are centrally displayed and monitored, and the concentration values are displayed in real time, and different fans are turned on according to different situations.

    3. The alarm value can be set freely, and the exhaust system can be automatically linked when the concentration value exceeds.

    Tips

According to the toxicity of carbon monoxide, 50ppm is the maximum limit that a healthy adult can withstand within eight hours. It is generally recommended to set the alarm value at 25~30ppm. When the concentration value exceeds 30ppm, automatic reminder and exhaust.

The number of carbon monoxide detectors in underground garages is mainly based on factors such as fire partitions and area size. Generally, one is about 300-400㎡. The installation height is recommended to be about 1.5m from the ground.

In addition to carbon monoxide, there are other harmful gases in underground garages, such as nitrogen oxides, particulate matter (PM2.5/PM10), etc., and corresponding sensors can be added according to actual needs to detect multiple gases. For more sensor solutions, please contact us~
