    1 Principle Introduction

    The catalytic combustion gas sensor uses the thermal effect principle of catalytic combustion. The detection element and the compensation element are paired to form a measuring bridge. Under certain temperature conditions, the combustible gas burns flamelessly on the surface of the detection element carrier and the catalyst. The carrier temperature rises, and the platinum wire resistance inside it also increases accordingly, causing the balance bridge to lose balance and output an electrical signal proportional to the concentration of the combustible gas.

    2 Sensor features

    Catalytic combustion gas sensors are the most widely used sensors in the world. They have a fast response speed. Up to the lower explosion limit concentration (LEL), the output of the sensor is almost proportional to the gas concentration, so the accuracy and repeatability are very high, which is suitable for the detection of flammable gas concentrations such as industrial and commercial gas, liquefied gas, coal gas, and alkanes.

    3 Precautions

    When using catalytic combustion gas sensors as alarm devices for detection elements, it is necessary to prevent silicon compounds, lead compounds, halogenated hydrocarbons, sulfides, phosphides and other substances that are easy to cause sensor poisoning, as well as high-concentration gas environments and mechanical shocks that exceed the detection range, so as not to affect the performance of the sensor, and then affect the overall performance of the alarm device.


There are many types of gas sensors for combustible gas detection, including semiconductor type, catalytic combustion type, electrochemical type, and infrared type. Catalytic combustion gas sensors are more suitable for the detection of flammable and explosive gases or organic vapors within the lower explosion limit concentration range in industries, coal mines, and civil fields due to their characteristics.
